Kissing a Fool & 1865 Limited Edition
Is this Syrah a fool like the kind Michael Bublé sings about? Making Syrah in the Elqui Valley, one of the sunniest region of Chile, where people cooks food just with solar power can sound pretty foolish…
But it is not. This Syrah comes from a vineyard located at 20 km straight to the Pacific ocean. As you may know this ocean, at its latitude, is very cold, which makes the weather in the area, where the vineyard is, very cold but with lots of sun and energy, perfect for slow ripening.
The grapes harvested in mid-april are highly concentrated because of this special location (lots of sun and very cold climate with high-temperatures changes between the day and the night).
Intense colour, deep violet almost dark. Complex nose, fruity and spicy. Many things! Dark fruits, smoked meat, violette, black pepper, black olive, tobacco and cedar. On the palate, smooth, elegant with great structure and balance. Very concentrated and powerful. Mineral, juicy with good acidity, mature tannins and long finish.
I would suggest this wine with black sausage or confit of duck and of course with Michael Bublé playing in the background…
